Emotions Unveiled

For so many of us, the Christian life is an exercise in “doing.” Because we are often encouraged to hide our emotions, to suppress “negative” emotions, and refrain from expressing thoughts in emotional ways, what we call “being in a relationship with God” can feel dry and devoid of life. We’re attempting to do relationships with veiled hearts. We live in our heads, busily managing people and situations, cut off from the part of us God made with the purpose of attaching to Him and to one another.

We wrote Emotions Unveiled: Exploring the Depths of the Heart in Scripture to encourage your intimacy with God and with those who matter to you. As your heart moves through this study, there will be a direct correlation between your willingness to wrestle with your own humanity and the emotional experience of your own story. Your capacity for intimacy with yourself, with others and with God will grow through the process.  We know this because you were made for this.

Emotions Unveiled

Introduction:

We’re excited to introduce Emotions Unveiled—a video series designed to explore the core emotions that shape our lives and reveal what Scripture teaches about them. Together, we’ll uncover timeless truths about who we are and how God invites us to understand and live with these emotions.

Chapter 1: Hurt

What if the hurt you’ve been trying to avoid is actually a pathway to the healing and courage you desperately need? Discover how Jesus modeled expressing pain and how your willingness to feel hurt—rather than stuffing it into resentment—can transform your relationships and set you free.

Chapter 2: Lonely

God Himself said, “It is not good for man to be alone,” yet we often mask our loneliness behind busyness and apathy instead of embracing it as a gift. But what if loneliness is the way we find the motivation to pursue relationships? Learn how Jesus experienced profound loneliness and how your own feelings of isolation are actually invitations to deeper intimacy with God and others.

Chapter 3: Sad

Even Jesus wept—and Scripture reveals that our attempts to “stay strong” and avoid sadness rob us of one of life’s most necessary experiences. Explore how feeling your losses fully, rather than minimizing them, leads to genuine acceptance and the courage to love again.

Chapter 4: Anger

Contrary to what many have been taught, anger isn’t sinful—it’s the feeling that reveals what you care about most and moves you toward passionate living. See how Jesus expressed righteous anger and discover how your own anger, when properly understood, becomes the voice that speaks your deepest desires.

Chapter 5: Fear

What if fear isn’t the opposite of faith, but actually the doorway into it? Watch how Jesus responded to His disciples’ terror with immediate compassion, and learn why acknowledging your fears—rather than trying to pray them away—leads to true refuge and wisdom.

Chapter 6: Shame

Healthy shame isn’t about feeling worthless—it’s about being “rightsized” and unashamed of your need for help, just like John the Baptist who knew exactly who he was and who he wasn’t. Discover the difference between toxic shame that destroys and healthy shame that leads to the humility that sets you free.

Chapter 7: Guilt

King David committed adultery and murder, yet God called him “a man after my own heart”—the difference was David’s willingness to confess rather than hide. Learn how feeling guilt, rather than living in self-condemnation, becomes your pathway to the freedom found in forgiveness.

Chapter 8: Glad

True gladness isn’t about pursuing happiness or avoiding pain—it’s the deep joy that emerges when you’ve learned to feel all your feelings fully. Discover how Solomon’s pursuit of every pleasure left him empty, while the willingness to live with an unveiled heart leads to joy mixed with sadness—the kind of gladness that can sustain you through anything.

What’s Next?

After learning to recognize and honor each emotion, the question becomes: what do you do with this unveiled heart? This explores the ongoing practice of staying emotionally honest and choosing vulnerability daily, even when it's hard.
